As TAP’s mission is to build a community of TA professionals, the community cannot exist without leaders or active participants. There are numerous ways to be involved with TAP, in a capacity that you feel comfortable with, supplementing your career and personal life. We always appreciate people helping to fill these roles:
- Event Volunteer: Help out with logistics, set-up, execution at events. This position is great if you can’t commit to long-term help, but want to help out they day of an event.
- Program Coordinator: Take on and manage an event. Perhaps you’ve organized other events for other organizations or you have a new idea for TAP members. We are open to all ideas. Or you can be a Coordinator of any existing program – dinner groups, golf groups, individual community service or professional events, etc.
- General Staff: Come to meetings, be apart of providing general input on the direction of TAP and programming, and help out in a capacity that suits your time constraints.
In addition to the roles above, as TAP grows, we are looking for motivated individuals willing to spend a few hours a week as a member of the Cabinet where you will have the opportunity to not only become involved with the Taiwanese American community, but also grow professionally. The descriptions below are generic and the actual involvement will likely change and evolve as the organization grows:
- Director of Professional Development: Coordinate events that strengthen our members’ current careers and broaden them to learn about other careers. Coordinates events on personal development topics relevant to young professionals.
- Director of Community Service: Coordinate events that help the Asian American community (e.g. Asian Pacific Women’s Shelter) or other non-Asian organization in order to create a Taiwanese American presence in the community (e.g. reading to children, feeding the homeless).
- Director of Community Development: Coordinate events that specifically help the Taiwanese American community. The purpose of the Community Development Chair is to produce programs that develop awareness of TA issues, invest into the youth (camps, internships, or scholarship programs), and bridge the generational gaps. Coordinate events increase awareness of Taiwanese culture, or promote any of the fine arts.
- Director of Public Relations: Involved in communication and building the relationship with the public and other organizations including Asian American, TA, Youth, and mainstream. Promotes the organization’s image and activities and informs the public of TAP’s services, positions, membership opportunities, and fundraising efforts.
